Santorini

I could rack my brain for hours and hours and would still find it difficult to come up with a place more beautiful than Santorini.

The magnificence of the white buildings, surrounded by blue skies and blue seas is absolutely breathtaking! You will not see one tourist without a camera in their hand ready to capture the next available piece of beauty. I use the word ‘available’ because there are literally queues of people lining up to get a shot of the next gorgeous view.

We disembarked the ship and got on our coach to get up to the town. The views were spectacular along the way which had us excited but unfortunately, our tour guide spent more time talking about the different varieties of food growing there, and their multiple stages of ‘ripeness’ instead of actually sharing any decent information.

If anyone does have any questions, though, on the ripening stages of fava beans or cherry tomatoes, please do let me know.

Powerscourt Gardens

Last Sunday, Jacqueline and I decided to visit Powerscourt Garens in Co. Wicklow.
It’s somewhere I had wanted to go for a long time and I figured Fall would be a good time to visit.

Thankfully we left quite early and were not in a hurry because the 1 hour drive it should have taken from my house to Powerscourt, doubled, as we got lost in Co. Wicklow. While driving around, we discovered some of the most beautiful places.. absolutely gorgeous houses spotted around the mountains, beautiful neighborhoods, little country villages. It made me realize how much I would love to own a house outside of the city, surrounded by nature.

Thankfully it was just us girls so we were not afraid to stop and ask for directions (unlike the other species) so shortly after that, we were headed once again in the right direction. I suppose it was just unfortunate we didn’t realise we were lost until we were over 30 minutes away from our desired destination!

It was worth the detour though…

At Powerscourt Gardens, apart from the obvious…gardens, there is an Avoca shop, which I love as well as an awesome garden centre. They had the cutest things, if only I took some pictures. I always feel shy taking my camera out in a shop to take photos. Probably because I’ve been told to put it away on so many occasions.

As of this morning, winter has officially arrived…. I’m off to turn on my heater, pull out the warm pjs and hop into bed.

Have a great weekend everyone!

A Random Saturday

It’s so unusual to have a day off with Jacqueline, let alone an entire weekend so last Saturday we decided to do some exploring together. I brought my camera thinking I could capture Fall in all it’s glory, however Fall didn’t really show up.

This gave me the urge to go berry picking. Yes, I want to get a little bucket and go out to pick fresh blackberries and raspberries. Now I just need to find someone to do it with me!

We stopped off in Howth in a place called The Doghouse. It is such a cute place! There are beds to lay on, proper beds, couches as well as regular tables indoors and outdoors. I just fell in love with the place when my tea came out……

I want these in my home!!

Have a great weekend, all!

The Start of Summer: Barcelona Town

How nice it was to be back in Barcelona!!

I was lucky enough to live in this amazing city for almost 3 years of highschool. A place, at first, I wished to escape from turned into a place I realised was a dream to live in. Being on a tennis court 6 days a week, 4/5/6 hours a day is not always fun, trying to fit in school in the remaining day light hours, and being away from home all takes a while to adjust to…. but when I stopped to think about what I had and understood the opportunities I had been given, I realised just how special this period of my life had been and was going to be. The longer I was there, the more I appreciated every day I had there, and as the months began to dwindle away, that appreciation became deeper and deeper.

How many times have you said before departing somewhere special that you will be back – not only once a year, but several times a year? And how many times does it happen? I am sad to say I have only been back 3/4 times in the past 8 years since I left Spain. A two hour flight away sometimes may as well be a 14 hour flight between family/work commitments or other engagements.

All I have now are the memories of some amazing times and some amazing people.

Last week we went back to celebrate Jacqueline’s birthday, to celebrate the start of summer and to create new memories!

Some of the fun stuff…

The Birthday

Birthday Lunch at CDLC – love this place!

Dinner at the W – Amazing!!!

We didn’t think one cake would be enough, so when we went back for a second time to the W, decided it would be appropriate to get a second birthday cake. Embarrassed? You would think right?

A few more special effects the second time!!

A lot of laughing!

What is a trip to Barcelona without a visit to Las Ramblas! Like New York City, you can watch the world go by in this place (a world with slightly more weirdos  unconventional people than other places!)

Best market ever! (Honestly)

Yes, you see them!

This market is endless, full of sweets, chocolates, fruit & vegetables, fish, meat, flowers-everything you can think of! I was wishing I was still living there so I could buy up the entire chocolate stand and bring it home with me.

Park Güell

I went to visit this place for a school tour when I was younger and have wanted to go back ever since. Such a cool place. It was designed by Antoni Gaudi as so many of the tourist attractions are in Barcelona.

Such a beautiful place!

I would have taken 200 more pictures here if I had been by myself. Myself and Ricardo (my camera) had a ball!!

We had the best time – I hope it won’t be another two years before my next visit.

Bring on the rest of the summer!!!
